RE: does everyone want an Airstream?

Personally I don't like the way they look. To me they look like they are already 50 years old right off the lot.

RE: Unlevel?

Who set up the WD? Sounds like it might not have enough tension or the right angle or height...something is not set right. Are the bars the right weight for the rig?

RE: Not a weight police person but....

I was kind of shocked to see people towing with no WD and in some cases just a standard draw bar not even rated for te trailer weight or possibly even tongue weight. Couple of bumper dragging 1/2 tons as well as mid sized SUV's as well. TT's were in the 18-23ft range. Kinda scary. Towing overweight is one thing, but having the completely wrong set up altogether is another. None of this shocks me anymore. I notice that I look at other rigs on the road a lot more and notice a lot of stuff I would not be comfortable doing, but not shocked by it. I just chalk it up to some folks either don't know any better or don't care. I don't "need" WD/SC on my rig, but I bought it and use it because I prefer to. I have towed around town without it but never on the highway, partly because I feel it important to do what I can if there is a "what if?".

RE: Electric Problem

Is this a new unit or new to you? If you bought it from a dealership, they should have gone over what systems will and will not operate off the 12v circuts. In mine I have heat, lights, and slide but nothing else. If you are trying to plug something into an outlet it will not work unless you are on shore power. Don't worry about asking questions or feeling silly, I know I asked a few doozies myself.

RE: Insurance?

Ours is paid for as well, but still has full coverage because I don't want to pay for it again if something happens to it. Our coverage is cheap too, like $14 a month or so.

RE: New Camper

Opinions are like, well, you know...All of them have issues to deal with. I finally pulled the wall socket down for my antenna only to discover that the last year and a half the only problem with reception was the shoddy workmanship that left the connections loose...go figure.

RE: how many of you camp with children

We have 4, but the older two are out of the house, the 14 and 10 year old go with us. We also camp with a dog and guniea pig (was two dogs until a month ago) :-(

RE: Why I can't use stabilizer jacks to level TT???

So what do you use as the "level" point of reference? I first thought of the floor, but maybe the sink would be better? Also, I've already figured out front to back we need a little lean towards the back and the drivers side so the AC unit will drain away from the TT. At this point I "eye-ball" it, and haven't had any problems yet, but for the most part the spots we've been in are usually pretty level. The refrigerator, this is the important piece to have level as it performs best when level. Put a level in the bottom and check it both ways, once it's level, everything else should be good.

RE: Why I can't use stabilizer jacks to level TT???

I have never seen a bent frame from this, but I have seen the stab jacks bend under the pressure, the side of them just kind of bowed out and that was the end of them!

RE: Towing OVER capacity..... too many doing this....

I wouldn't say anything, if I wanted an opinion, I would ask for it. Normally when someone at the CG offers an un-solicited opinion, that's the last conversation I have with them. Regardless of how you feel or how concerned you are, IMO, it's none of your business how I spend my money. This is in no way intended as negative. Just how I feel. I don't care for nosey neighbors at home, why should I deal with it when I want to relax? Not a single person on the face of this earth will ever agree with me 100%, not even me...

RE: Towing a 31 TT with 2wd?

Define off pavement. Most CGs we go to have either sand, or dirt roads. Haven't needed 4x4 in the last 26 years. Our campers have always been parked in the backyard on grass, and it is up hill to get them out. Also have never needed 4x4 to get them out, and yes. It has rained a couple of times in the last 26 years. Still did not need 4x4 to go camping. So IMOP. A 2WD. Will take your camper anywhere you want to go. It will ride better, have more power, and get better MPG doing it. Do I go off roading with the TT? Nope. That ain't what it is for. For me I would say off pavement is anything not "improved". Where I am from (Harney County, Oregon), if you leave the road after any rain, you will regret it, I have seen a light rain turn the desert into the consistency of ranch dressing in minutes. Even some of the county "roads" are not a good idea. I may be from the land time forgot, but it is peaceful out there. Here in North Dakota, winters make 4X4 real nice to have and there are plenty of places it's a must to travel. I guess there is no way to "define" off pavement as for some that might be the gravel parking lot at the local ball field, others might see it as serious off roading. depends on where you live..."if directions to your house include ""when you leave the paved road...."" (credit Jeff Foxworthy).

RE: Towing with my 05 Trailblazer

We tow the boat with ours and you do feel it, but it does a good job. Our only complaint is the mileage is horrible pulling or not.

RE: tow haul mode

With the TT it's on all the time, with the boat it's off all the time for me.

RE: Would this work? Coachman/Toyota 4Runner

Our Trailblazer pulls the boat (3500#) just fine, but the gas mileage is horrible...

RE: Prowler frame is weak and falling apart

If it was metal fatigue, I would have to think it started with the axle flip, I hear about this all the time and have to believe that if you change the way something was designed to work, you are setting yourself up for failure. I know it doesn't happen every time, and a lot has to do with environmental issues (the environment you use the product) such as Utah hiways and byways (I know what those back roads are like from personal experience), it's only a matter of time. With steel, once you get a stress crack and it starts to rust, it's only a matter of time until failure, period, dot. It sounds to me like the OP is very capable of making proper repairs, I would hope he does the same repairs to the rest of the mounting points as well to avoid future issues.

RE: Towing a 31 TT with 2wd?

I have my 4X4 because I like it and I live in North Dakota. I am from eastern Oregon where 4X4 is a must if you go off pavement. That said, if all I was going to use it for was a TV, I would likely get a 2 wheel drive for that job and watch where I go. My hobbies make the 4X4 MY best option but I have gotten it stuck before too, so I think common sense is the best option you can get on any vehicle you operate. So far, the only time I was glad I had it but didn't need it was this summer in Maine...that CG (Mainayr CG, Stuben, ME) was horrible to get through and if there had been any more water I might have needed the 4X4.

RE: control panel question

As long as there was water in the tank I doubt there was any damage. I run mine on both to get it hot and then shut off the gas just to maintain temp.

RE: Seeking Towing scenario input

I made the same mistake before as well. My old TV had the 3.42 and 5.3 and pulled the TT just OK (IMO). So, one season of that and I upgraded the TV and gave myself some cusion for a TT upgrade in the future. I am glad you got the TV that can easily handle your needs. Enjoy both the new toys!
